In practical terms, however, the reported lost hour is surprisingly hard to measure.

The route problem

The reported location west of Fargo creates an immediate chronology challenge. Interstate 94 between Fargo and Bismarck is a long, sparsely populated stretch of road, especially during pre-dawn hours in the mid-1970s.
